Custom or prefab cabinets: the differences

Custom and prefab cabinets serve different needs. Here's how they compare.

Fit to your space

Custom cabinets are built to the exact dimensions of your room. They make use of corners, ceiling heights and unusual spaces. Prefab cabinets come in standard sizes, which can leave gaps to fill.

Materials and finishes

With custom, you choose the materials, colours and hardware. Prefab offers a more limited choice, already set by the manufacturer.

Lead time

Prefab is often available faster, since it's already made. Custom is made to order, which takes more time, but the result is fitted to your kitchen.
